A Journey of Growth.

From birth to age 2, children go through vital milestones. Knowing these stages helps you nurture your child's growth. During these years, children experience significant growth and development. As parents, knowing these stages can support and motivate our little ones. But remember, every child is different and develops at their own pace.

Newborn (0-3 Months):

Physical Milestones

During the first few weeks, your newborn will show reflexes such as the grasp reflex and rooting reflex. Besides sleeping, they can start to control their head and lift it briefly when lying on their stomach. A play mat can assist with tummy time. Remember to supervise them closely.

Communication and Bonding Milestones

Newborns start to make eye contact and may recognize familiar voices. Holding and cuddling your baby helps you bond. They are so adorable! Give your baby time on their tummy to make their neck and upper body stronger. Talk to your baby in a soft and comforting way to encourage communication. I used to talk to my daughter, read her books and play music for her.

Infancy (4-6 Months):

Physical Milestones

At this phase of your baby’s development, you may notice that they are becoming more mobile, as they begin to roll over, reach out for objects within their grasps. Additionally, with a bit of assistance, some babies may even start to sit up, giving them an enhanced perspective of their surroundings.  Soft books and toys become a source of fascination for your little one as they eagerly learn to hold and explore them. Enjoy endless moments of wonder and happiness as your baby grows and expands their skill set.

Cognitive Milestones

As your baby grows, they will begin to babble and play with sounds. They will also learn that objects still exist even when they can't see them. They are very curious, and a mirror can be entertaining for them. Help them practice reaching and grabbing by giving them toys suitable for their age. You may hear them say "mama" or "dada" around this time like my daughter did at 6 months old. It’s also time to start introducing solid foods, following your pediatrician's advice! This can be a little nerve-wracking, so make sure you have everything you need for feeding ready.

Early Toddler (7-12 Months):

Physical Milestones

During this phase, it's impressive to see how quickly babies improve in their motor skills. They start off by crawling or scooting, but soon they're able to pull themselves up to stand and cruise along furniture. It's an exciting moment when you see your little one taking their first steps. I remember, with pride, how my daughter started walking at just 10 months old.  It's truly amazing to watch them learn and acquire all these skills in such a short time. To boost their progress, consider using a baby walker. For tips, make sure your home is safe for them to explore by babyproofing. Provide a variety of colorful and textured toys for them to touch and see.

Cognitive Milestones

As your baby grows, you’ll notice them talking more, and witnessing their first words is truly melting. Along with their language development, their problem-solving abilities also improve as they explore how things work. This phase is filled with curiosity and excitement, making it a perfect time to introduce engaging and educational toys. I recommend Lovevery top-quality toys designed specifically to your baby's needs. Their products are not only engaging and educational but also well worth the investment.

Toddlerhood (13-24 Months):

Physical Milestones

Walking on their own has become the usual thing now, confidently exploring their surroundings. They climb, slide and run around with lots of energy, eager to discover everything around them. Fine motor skills are also starting to develop.  You'll observe them stacking blocks, arranging them carefully, and maybe even trying to scribble with crayons or markers, leaving their creative marks on paper, walls or wherever they feel like it. It's an exciting time as their physical and fine motor skills improve, allowing them to engage with their surroundings in new and fascinating ways.

Cognitive Milestones

Your toddler's vocabulary grows fast and they're beginning to express themselves with two-word phrases. My daughter enjoys watching Ms. Rachel on YouTube. Educational shows help them learn while giving them screen time. Through engaging videos, they absorb new concepts, words, and ideas, helping to foster their cognitive development. In addition to their language skills, children love to pretend and be imaginative, which helps them develop their language, creativity, and social skills. Toys like play tents, kitchen sets, and dress-up clothes are great for fostering these abilities. Plus, they'll have a blast playing with them!

Emotional and Social Milestones

Building connections with both peers and adults is important for your child’s growth. Taking your child to places like the park, children's centers, or indoor playgrounds help them develop social skills. As we go back to normal after COVID-19, I take my daughter to the park every day if the weather is good. This lets her learn, see new things, and make new friends. Additionally, toddlers often want to be independent and might have tantrums, which can be challenging to handle. Remember to stay calm and keep going! Tantrums are a natural part of the parenting journey.

Supporting Your Child's Development:

Offer age-appropriate toys and activities that encourage learning and creativity. Create chances for social interaction, whether through playdates or everyday outings like grocery shopping, where they can greet people and have fun.

Stick to your daily routine that includes reading time and interactive play, even though it can be a challenge to balance work and motherhood. Personally, I stick to our routine when I get home, which involves feeding, playing, spending time outside, and reading bedtime stories.

Ensure your child gets enough sleep and eats a well-balanced diet. However, during this stage, they can be picky eaters as they explore new tastes. I've faced my share of struggles trying to figure out what to prepare for my daughter. One day she loves strawberries, and the next day, she just spits them out—it's all part of the adventure!

Parenting Through the Early Years:

Parenting can be challenging, with things like sleep regressions and tantrums being normal. Be patient as your child is learning and developing new skills, which can be hard for them too. Enjoy and cherish every moment because they grow up fast. At age 2, kids go through a stage called the "terrible twos." But it's actually a great time when they understand, enjoy cuddling, and form close bonds with you. It's a time when you can engage in brief conversations with them.

The first two years of your child's life are a period of significant growth and learningIt's important to know the stages they go through and make sure they feel loved and well-cared for. This is essential for their healthy development and building a strong foundation. Remember, every child is unique and may progress at their own pace. If you have concerns about your child's development, consult with a pediatrician or child development specialist for guidance.
