A Heartwarming Family Reunion.

After a wait of five long years, I finally had the chance to return to my homeland, the Philippines, this time with my daughter. It was her first visit to meet my family and for us to experience a heartwarming family reunion. Our trip was centered around attending my brother's church wedding, which took place during August. However, I must admit that August might not be the ideal time to visit due to the scorching heat, humidity, and the looming typhoon season. If you're considering a trip to the Philippines during this month, make sure to have a water bottle with you at all times.

So, what did we do during our two-week stay in the Philippines? To be honest, we didn't do a ton of things. Instead, we spent valuable time with my family and enjoyed the tasty food I missed from my home country.

In the first few days of our trip, we spent time in Pangasinan, reconnecting with relatives and making sure to pay our respects at the Manaoag Church – a cherished tradition from my childhood. This sacred place is renowned for its reputation of granting prayers and petitions through the intercession of the Blessed Lady. We also ventured into the expansive shopping centers of SM Urdaneta and SM Rosales, where we couldn't resist indulging in pasalubongs like some iconic treats like Polvoron and Macaroons from Goldilocks, along with a selection of other delectable snacks.

Our trip continued to La Union, where we got ready for the wedding and had a great time catching up with more family and relatives. It was touching to see how my hometown had changed over the years, with the new Robinsons Mall. I also had the opportunity savor some of Filipino delicacies that I missed such as Balut, Tupig, Fresh Buko and Halo-Halo. When visiting northern provinces like my hometown, be sure not to pass up the chance to experience a ride on a tricycle or jeepney!

The day before the wedding, we stayed at my cousin's resort called Ynad’s Place, which comes highly recommended for both special occasions and relaxation. The hospitality was outstanding, and the property was spacious. For more information, you can visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ynadsplace/. Furthermore, our stay included a delightful complimentary breakfast.

The wedding party happened at Vista la Vita, a great venue. You can check their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/vistalavitaV/. It felt like a wonderful celebration. My daughter was a flower girl for the first time.

After the wedding, we stayed at Hilton Manila for a few days. I want to mention how great their huge swimming pool was, as well as their affordable and tasty Kusina breakfast buffet. Hilton members get a discount when staying there. We had limited time, so our first destination was the famous Mall of Asia – a great place to shop, though it can be a bit confusing to navigate.

If you're in Manila, you should definitely check out Manila Ocean Park, especially if you have kids. My daughter was amazed by the underwater creatures like fish and sea lions. The bird and sea lion show made it even more exciting. Don't forget to try the Filipino restaurant, Makan Makan Asian Food Village, it's inside the ocean park.

We ended our trip at Venice Grand Canal Mall located in Taguig, known for its great restaurants and stores. Even though our visit was short, I found it breathtaking. I recommend going in the evening when the lights enhance its beauty.

Our vacation was short but fun, and I'm excited to finally see my family after a long time. I'm already excited for our next gathering in a few years! Big thanks to Philippine Airlines for our smooth and safe trip!
